USA Cycling WYOCITY American Mountain Bike Challenge Coming to Casper Mountain
On August 22, 2015, Casper Mountain and the Nordic Trails Center will host the first USA Cycling American Mountain Bike Challenge (AMBC) to ever be held in Wyoming.
The AMBC is a series of nine events held in the United States allowing mountain bike racers to earn points toward gaining a spot in the National Championships held annually. The Casper Sports Alliance (CSA) bid on the event in November of 2014 and was awarded one of the nine competitions being held this year.
"I want to thank Natrona County for their willingness to work with us to bring this event to the trails on Casper Mountain," said John Giantonio, Director of the Alliance. "This is an event we will pursue to host every year with the hope of one day hosting the National Championship on the mountain."
Work has just begun and efforts are moving forward to get the race course secured, find volunteers and interested organizations who would like to support the effort through sponsorships. During the race, a mountain bike festival will be hld to allow enthusiasts to see the latest gear and take test rides while watching the race.
The official name of the event is the WYOCITY American Mountain Bike Challenge. The race is expected to bring 250 riders from around the nation in three categories who will race distances between 22-miles and 5.5-miles. A 10-year-old and under race will also be held in the Nordic Center maze to benefit Safe Kids of Central Wyoming.
