Fort Caspar Museum

Travel Back in Time to 1865

Make a trip to the Fort Caspar Museum and Historic Site. Originally built as a trading post on the Oregon Trail and later serving as a military post of the U.S. Army, Fort Caspar looks much the same today as it did in the mid-19th century. The summer months are the best time to explore the site, which includes a reconstructed 1865 frontier army fort, an 1859 Guinard bridge and an 1847 Mormon ferry. The indoor museum, open year-round, has a number of exhibits offering insight into the cultural and environmental changes that have occurred throughout the years. History buffs and novices alike will have no difficulty imagining themselves as emigrants traveling across America’s open plains in search of a new life.
